“Everything that I learned on this trip will stay with me for the rest of my life”
My “Journey for a Lifetime” trip has been the best experience of my life. I have never had so much knowledge and understanding, not only in such a short time, but in any endeavor I have done. It has been extremely rewarding.
In Canada I’m so lucky and privileged and I had always taken it for granted. I would be disappointed if I didn’t get that new shirt or even a chocolate bar at the grocery store. Unlike in Canada, in Poland some kids wanted a bag of sweets as part of their last wish. Whenever I get down I’m going to think of the kids who we granted wishes to, and my small disappointments and worries will seem very silly.
Poland was a wonderful country. Even if I didn’t understand what anyone was saying! The parts of the country we saw were absolutely gorgeous. Warsaw was a very nice city with lots of history. The towns in the mountains were very cute, and very welcoming. Driving through the mountains was the best view I’ve seen anywhere. I would love to learn Polish and go back some day!
I’ve had invaluable experiences on this trip, like seeing the concentration camp, Auschwitz, and falling in love with a child in just one short visit. These are experiences that I would not trade for a lifetime. I will never fully understand what it takes to walk in these children’s shoes, but I understand that they are still happy and glad to see us and I will always remember their incredible strength and joy.
