Reflections on my Journey for Lifetime - Hannah

“I can honestly say I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do in my life so far”

I can’t believe I got to go on this trip! When we got the presentation at school, I was like, wow, I have to do this, there is no way I can pass this up. At the first meeting I was completely mesmerized by the whole thing and mom agreed to let me go. At that point it didn’t feel real at all, it was like my dream being put right into my hands, it all seemed too good to be true.

So when it was all set, I started fundraising, which went so well, I never knew how many people would be willing to support you if you were going to do such a good thing.

When the trip finally came, I still didn’t believe it, it wasn’t until we landed in London that it really set in.

I loved this trip soooooo x 5140061792132125 times much, it was a dream come true. I got to help so many kids and just make them so happy. It felt so good I left every house feeling on top of the world. And seeing London, that was incredible, we were there for a day and I already felt like I’d seen the whole city, which we did. Seeing Warsaw was like a dream come true, I’ve wanted to see it for so long and now I have. The Salt Mines were so cool and interesting and stuff so I’m so glad we got to see them. And Auschwitz, my stomach was completely in knots the whole time, it scared me so much, I couldn’t help picturing everyone living like that.

Even our chaperones made the trip amazing, I mean they provided entertainment for the trip.

I basically fell in love with Maria and Patrycja, they both pretty bomb, and well, just plain amazing.

I think this trip has completely changed my view on life, it made me think, well, if these kids can become sick, there is no reason why it can’t happen to me, so I’m just going to take every opportunity I can get my hands on so I never miss out. I’ll start being nicer to people now too, because I don’t want the last thing I say to be something mean. And I’m going to actually make stuff happened for myself and everyone else around, I’m going to do more for other people and volunteer in my free time, well the little I have, but I’ll make it work.

And I think this has really straightened out my priorities. Going on this trip I was pretty much in the mindset that life is about getting stuff done and now I’m starting to see that it is about the process and I shouldn’t rush through it, I should just go with it and see what happens and enjoy the view.

And one of the best parts of this trip was having you Kamila as a chaperone. You made it fun, interesting, hilarious, and just made the whole thing so much better. You have helped us get through all the hard times and enjoy the good ones. I honestly couldn’t have picked a better chaperone if I’d tried. I would say you are like my Polish mom, but you are way too cool to be my mom so maybe my Polish aunt or cool big sister, either works.

So basically, I just want to say thanks for everything. You and Garry have made my dream come true, right now I feel a feeing of completeness (even though that’s not a word) I can now honestly say I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do in my life so far. So yeah, thank you!! Love.

Hannah Gautreau.
