“I don’t know why somebody wouldn’t want to do a Journey for a Lifetime”
I was absolutely certain I would take this trip the moment I found out I could go. I simply had to, nothing was going to stop me and nothing did. Raising funds was easier than expected, and soon I was packing my bag.
Garry often told us how much this trip opens you up. I believed him then, but I cannot even express how RIGHT he was. To see the world, to travel, to see problems far beyond your own. Your perspective switches like you’ve looked up from a microscope slide of yourself and see the whole world around you. This isn’t accomplished by sombre meetings. Rather you find yourself going from laughing in the middle of Poland about practically nothing to seeing somebody living so differently from you so happy to meet you and to receive their wish. And even cooler than giving a wish is laughing and playing with that child moments later.
The trip encompasses so many emotions and all of them accepted by Kamila and Patrycja. Yes, you will be sad. But you will also be beyond happy, euphoric you are living in this moment. The trip is fun - too much to explain. Singing karaoke Christmas songs, learning Polish words, trying anything you can… The trip is yours to gain so, so, so much.
And as somebody who went without a friend I can say that it was fine. You will certainly have new friends in the end and this only showed me that I’d like to travel independently.
A friend who went previous to me said Kamila was like her “Polish Mother”. But she isn’t mine, she is so much more. Kamila could be my Polish Confidante, my Polish Comedian, my Polish Chauffeur, my Polish all-around Amazing Person. But most deeply she became my friend. Finding somebody more kind, generous, understanding and perfect for what she does would be impossible.
I don’t know why somebody wouldn’t want to do a Journey for a Lifetime. Just ten days to make you look outside your doorstep and discover how much is out there, to gain a new perspective and have a great time doing it..
