I can't believe it is three weeks already since Nicole came back from her amazing journey.
It seems like only yesterday that she came home with news from school about this trip she heard a presentation on. That is now 8 months ago. At first I was hesitant about sending my then 13 year old daughter overseas with people I didn't know or had even heard of before but my wife and myself decided that since she was so excited about this opportunity that we would go and hear what these people had to say. That night was to change my opinion of the trip from hesitant to excited, just like Nicole.
The reason for my change was the excitement and heartfelt sincerity that I felt from Garry and Kamila. The stories they told of past trips took me from trying to come up with a reason to let Nicole down easy to thinking of ways we could fundraise to pay for the trip. Although still having some concerns about people I didn't know I asked for some references from local people who had daughters or sons who had gone on trips before. Talking to these people alleviated all my fears and we were full on into fundraising for the trip.
Fast forward to the last week in August and we were dropping our now 14 year old at the airport to go overseas. At this point came the constant e-mail updates to let us know how the girls were doing on their trip. We knew exactly where they were, what they did that day (including great pictures) and where they were going. Not only were we kept up to date but also our friends and family were e-mailed directly by Garry and Kamila.
To do good deeds as Garry and Kamila are doing with their organization in Poland is commendable but to come up with the idea to share this process with young people in our part of the world is an amazing thing indeed. I know this will make my daughter a better and more caring person than she already is and I only wish there were more opportunities like this for young people to learn from. This truly was a "Journey for a Lifetime"
