As a birth-mother of six healthy children, I know what it means to be blessed! As an entrepreneur since 1981, I know what it means to take…‘risks’! I believe that life is similar to a garden..…we reap what we sow. It may sound cliché, however, I believe it to be entirely true and have noticed it to be proven time and time again.
After attending a fund-raising event for Coalition for Kids at the Rebecca Cohn in October of 2007…I knew immediately that my 17 year old daughter, Julie would be an ideal candidate as an Ambassador from Nova Scotia. I didn’t know a lot about the program, however, I knew a lot about Julie! I also operate in the world from intuition and…I intuitively knew that this was an organization that was about helping, contributing and blessing the lives of others. Immediately, I was on board and there was NO convincing required. It was a perfect match because…Julie has always demonstrated the exact skill-set required of the children who volunteer and the organization was extremely forth-coming with details.
Once I learned more about CFK, I was even more convinced that…this was an invaluable experience in which to expose Julie. My husband and I discussed the opportunity that would be presented to Julie both at home and abroad and decided that if she wanted to partake in the program…we would support her unconditionally.
As an entrepreneur, I could see the significant value in the learning opportunity that is attached to the fund-raising element borne by the children. This was a ‘win-win’ situation for everyone involved. It required Julie to develop additional skill-sets early in life that will continue to serve her, as well as…tapping into resources and energies that she didn’t know she had. I also LOVE the ‘pay it forward’ concept by this fantastic organization!
If there are parents reading this note who have children who are interested in volunteering for this program, I urge you to consider the enormous benefits they will obtain as a result of their commitment and participation in this program. I do not have ANY hesitation or reservation in recommending this opportunity to any student or parent who is looking to experience a “Journey for a Lifetime”. It is a GIFT many times over.
